Privacy

Sardine has no accounts, sets no cookies, loads no third-party scripts, and sells nothing. This page lists everything it does record, which is short enough to read in full.

What is recorded

Only what is needed to know whether the site works and whether anyone is using it. All of it is first-party: it is written by our own server, to our own disk, and leaves neither.

A random browser id	Generated by your browser and kept in its local storage, so we can tell one visit from two and a returning reader from a new one. It identifies a browser, not a person. You can see it in your browser's storage and delete it at any time; clearing site data removes it and we have no way to reconstruct it.	Until you clear it
Which pages you opened	The path only — whether you looked at the 15-minute screen or the hourly ladder, opened a row, or left for Kalshi.	180 days
Where you arrived from	The host name only of the site you came from — `reddit.com`, `t.co`, or `direct` if you typed us in. Never the page: which thread or post you were reading is not recorded and never reaches us. Plus any campaign tags in a link we paid for, which we remove from your address bar on arrival so you do not pass them on when you share the link.	180 days
A one-day hash of your address	Your IP address and browser name are combined with a secret and the current date, and only the result is stored. It lets us count one person once on a given day. Because the date is part of it, the value changes tomorrow, so it cannot be used to follow anyone across days — even by us. Your IP address itself is never written down.	180 days
An email address, only if you type one	If you ask to be told when the alerts product exists. Stored on its own, never beside the browser id, and used for that one message.	Until you ask us to remove it

What is not

No accounts and no passwords. There is nothing to sign up for.
No cookies. Not for analytics, not for anything.
No third-party scripts. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no session recorder, no tag manager. The only outside request any page makes is to Google Fonts for the typeface.
No fingerprinting. Nothing is derived from your screen, fonts, canvas, hardware or timezone. The browser id is random, and that is the whole difference.
Nothing sold, rented or shared. No data broker, no ad network, no partner. There is no second party.
No trading data. Sardine cannot see your Kalshi account, positions or orders, and never asks for them. When you tap Open on Kalshi we record that a click happened and send you on; what you do there is between you and Kalshi, under their policy.

Deleting what we have

Clear this site's data in your browser and the id is gone. The rows already written are anonymous counts that cannot be traced back to you, and they age out after 180 days. If you left an email address and want it removed, write to jake@sardine-weather.com and it will be deleted.

Who runs this

Sardine is one person. Questions about any of the above go to the same address. If this page ever stops being accurate, that is a bug — tell me and I will fix the page or the behaviour, whichever is wrong.
